Roudenbush Community Center Westford, Massachusetts

The Roudenbush Community Center was built as the Second Westford Academy Building in 1897. After serving various educational and recreational uses over time, it became a community center in 1975. Years of deferred maintenance and deterioration of an extensive fire escape triggered needed improvements for current and future generations.

Mills Whitaker Architects developed design documents for a significant rehabilitation of this historic resource, including full handicap access, elevator installation, replacement of all building systems, provision of fire protection, exterior cupola repairs and slate roof replacement. The completed project preserved historic features while integrating required code upgrades and improvements to life safety.

The facility re-opened in its fully accessible and restored state in January 2019.
