Paul Revere Education & Visitor Center North End / Boston, Massachusetts

The Paul Revere Memorial Association is the steward of the Paul Revere House, circa 1680, and the Pierce/Hichborn House, circa 1711. The Revere House is well known for its association with the famous patriot, silversmith, and midnight riding herald. The lesser known Pierce/Hichborn House is one of the earliest surviving brick buildings in Boston. The Association serves over 300,000 visitors a year who tour the museum’s historic properties and participate in its various programs.

Mills Whitaker Architects was retained to assist with adaptive reuse of an 1835 tenement building adjacent to the museum’s courtyard, one of the last wood-framed duplexes of its kind. The rehabilitated facility provides program space, meeting rooms, offices and a gift shop. The original character of the duplex was restored while incorporating code upgrades, accessibility provisions and programmatic requirements. The completed project has received multiple preservation awards and now provides handicap access into both floor levels of the Revere House.
